FYI
CAN
I ADJUST MYSELF?
No. Some people can make their joints “pop,” but
that is not an adjustment. Worse damage
can occur by mobilizing a joint with weakened muscles and ligaments.
A
chiropractic adjustment is a specific force applied in a specific line of drive
to move a fixated segment (vertebra), which takes years of training to
master. A chiropractor locates a
subluxation through patient histories, examinations, x-rays, and palpation. After the chiropractor locates the
subluxation, they perform a specific adjustment to correct the subluxation.
When
you have a subluxation, two vertebra are fixated, or stuck. The segments above and below the subluxation
are unstable and become hypermobile (move too easily). When you try to adjust yourself, you are not
able to use the specific line of drive and correct force to correct the
subluxation. The noise you hear is the
moving of the already unstable and hypermobile joint.
Even
your chiropractor must consult with a colleague to benefit from chiropractic
care.
